Piano Recital Etiquette for Musicians
What should the musician do when the audience applauds?
Hello, my name is Caroline Welles and I am going to be talking for About.com about piano recital etiquette for musicians. The way we present our concert is enormously important, so if I am doing a concert, I like to walk onto the platform, bow and smile at the audience so hopefully they feel very at ease and it is always very nice to dress up well as well. It is very, very important that an audience feel that you have made an effort to look really, really nice as well as hopefully playing beautifully. And also to be very polite to the audience and to acknowledge when they applaud, to bow and to acknowledge that they have hopefully enjoyed your play, and to smile a great deal, because I think the more we smile the more the audience are going to feel comfortable, and that is what we want to do in a recital.A very good thing for an audience, basically is when we walk on having not been seen beforehand, because I think there is a feeling of a recital being a special occasion both for the performer and also for the audience, so the fact that we walk on from the wings of a theater or the wings of a recital hall wearing a beautiful dress is something that the audience find very, very appealing and very interesting.
