How to Care for Your Piano Keys
If a coin gets stuck between two keys,
My name is Tim and I work for the Piano Workshop in Reigate, United Kingdom. For About.com I want to give you, tell you some tips on how to care for your piano keys.A tip to start with is when you are about to play the piano is obviously to wash your hands. Secondly, when the piano is not in use, always keep the lid or fold of the piano closed. This will help in keeping dust and sunlight and daylight away from the piano. To clean the keys on the piano all you really need is a damp cloth very well wrung out, soaked in warm water, but you do not want any water dripping on or around the keys. Just go up and down the keys from the back to the front along the whole keyboard and with a soft piece of cotton or dry cloth just dry them, they should not be wet anyway. If something gets caught down the middle between two keys, which often does, I mean it is usually coins, if you can not readily get at it by pressing a note down, call in your piano tuner or technician or a qualified person to get it out as you could cause more damage to the piano. This is Tim at the Piano Workshop at Reigate, United Kingdom, for About.com, giving you tips on how to care for your piano keys.
