Where to Place a Piano in Your Home
To keep a piano in good condition, what humidity condition should it be placed in?
Hi, I am Derek from Reigate Piano Workshop, Reigate, UK, for About.com to tell you where to place a piano in your home. The shape and size of the piano would determine where it is placed in your home. The piano is a very sturdy instrument, but it will suffer if not cared for properly. So, please, do not put it in direct sunlight, do not place in front of a radiator or any direct heat source. It must not become damp or dry and we need it to keep in good condition. We suggest that the humidity be between 55 and 70 percent. To check this, a humidifier can be purchased from your local piano supplier. The sound of an upright piano comes from the rear, so be aware, if it is on an adjoining wall, the sound may trouble your neighbors. Finally, if you have any doubts about where to position your instrument, please, do contact your local piano supplier. This is Derek from Reigate Piano Workshop, Reigate, UK, for About.com.
