Gran's fishing trip
Question
What did Gran catch on her fishing trip?
提交
Kitty: Hey Gran. Did you have a nice weekend?
Gran: Oh, I had a fantastic weekend!
Kitty: Where did you…went or go?
Gran: It’s “Where did you go?”
Kitty: Why do we say ‘Where did you go?’ and not ‘Where did
you went?’ I thought ‘went’ was the past for ‘go’.
Gran: It is, but what is ‘did’ in the past or the present?
Kitty: Ah! The past. So because of did, we don’t
change ‘go’ into ‘went’.
Gran: Exactly! ‘Did’ tells us we’re talking about the past.
Kitty: So, where did you go, Gran?
Gran: I went fishing.
Kitty: No way! What did you catch?
Gran: Well, I pulled and pulled and pulled and I thought I had a
big fish... but I caught a boot!
Kitty: Oh. Who did you go with?
Gran: I went with John.
Kitty: But Gran, John hasn’t got a car. How did you get there?
Gran: We went on his motorbike.
Kitty: You rode on a motorbike? Gran!
