To perfect your kick technique, push off from the side on your back. Interlock your fingers above your head and kick so that your feet are just churning the water. There should be none or very little splashes. To strengthen the kick even more try placing your elbows into the water with your wrists raised out of the water.
Try a single arm stroke by resting one arm on your thigh and the other doing the arm action. This encourages your body to roll and your shoulder to lift, giving more power to your stroke. Remember the bent arm action is best for greater speed and force in the water. Then, try with one arm extended behind your head, whilst the other is practising the arm pull and shoulder roll. Shoulder rolls help to make a more powerful pull.
Remember to breathe in through your mouth as your first arm gets ready to start the cycle, breathe out as the arm finishes the underwater action.The back stroke can be mastered with regular practice. If you feel these practices are difficult, go back to the intermediate practices to refresh your technique.
