Hello, my name is Rebecca Blomker and I used to be a AP English teacher before I chose to home-educate my sons. Today we are going to talk about what is a preposition for About.com.A preposition usually comes before a noun or pronoun -- that would be called the object of the preposition. And the preposition, together with its object, forms what we call a prepositional phrase. Prepositions show relationships -- that's the function that they have -- between the object and other words in the sentence. One easy way to remember it is: take a mouse and its little house. So you are going to use prepositions to show his relationship to his house. So you have the mouse -- it can be on the house, it can be in the house, it can be under the house, it can run around the house. So prepositions: on, in, around, by, shows the the mouse's relationship to his house and that's how they function in a sentence. Thank you for watching and for a full list of prepositions, please check us out on the web at About.com.
