Hi, I'm Jen D'Amore for About.com, and this video is all about 10 simple steps to a healthier lifestyle using Paige Waehner's tips from About.com's Exercise site.Focusing on small changes is a great way to start implementing healthy changes without becoming overwhelmed. For starters, turn off the TV. It's easy to let time slip away when cozy on the couch. Make an effort to watch a little less TV and replace it with something active.Walk more. Every little bit helps, so park a little further from the entrance when you're shopping, and take short 5 minute walks around the block or on the treadmill when you can.
Do chores. Movement is good, and that includes folding the laundry. So get your house in order, it'll get your circulation moving, and burn a few calories. Pace while you talk on the phone, rather than staying in one place. You can even get some of those chores done while being entertained.Be aware of all the physical activity you do in a day. Make a list, and if it looks like you're stagnant, make a second list of extra activity you can do, like taking the stairs, or stretching.Eat more fruit. Have some first thing in the morning, if you aren't already. Make a fresh fruit smoothie, add it to your cereal or your salads. Sneak in more veggies, wherever you can. Add them to your sandwich, pizza, or pasta sauce. Save a few hundred calories by switching to a lighter salad dressing.
Shave a few more calories eating low-fat, fat-free, or slightly smaller portions. Make lower calorie substitutes for items you eat regularly. Pick 3 items, copy their nutritional content, and find a healthier replacement for each. Smaller changes are easier to implement and can become healthy habits.
