Hi I'm Christine Hassler, I'm a Life Coach, Author and Speaker, here today with About.com.And today I'm going to answer the question, what is a stress response? A stress response is a physiological reaction to a perceived threat or stress. And you know you're having a stress response in your body if you're feeling things like: shortness of breath; or you notice your heartbeat starts to get quicker; or you feel a huge sensation of heat move through your body; or you notice a big surge of adrenaline. All of these things in our body release hormones like cortisol, that add to stress in our body.So it's important to know what your stress responses are so that you can start to manage them. So now that you know the signs of a stress response, next it's time to look at whether you're creating stress responses or they're actually happening.A lot of times we are so in the habit of being stressed out and reactionary about something, that we create a stress response just by our thoughts alone, versus something that's actually happening. Look, life is stressful enough, so save getting stressed out for those actual events, rather than perceived events that you're creating in your head. If you start to do that, that's not only better for your stress level, it will improve your overall health and well-being.
