Hi, I'm Donald Daedalus, for About.com. In today's video, I'm going to show you how to bend water using static electricity.Turn on the faucet so a small but steady stream of water is coming out. Blow up your balloon and start rubbing it in your hair. The messier you make it, the better. Do this for about half a minute, until the balloon has charged with enough static electricity to make your hair stand on end. Then place the balloon or comb very close to the stream of water. Do you see it bend? If you don't get it the first time, try rubbing longer and getting the static built up. Also try adjusting the amount of water coming out of the facet. You may have too much water to bend. This works best in the dry months, like winter; sometimes the summer air can be too humid.  We can also do this with a comb. It doesn't hold quite as much charge as a balloon, but can demonstrate the idea just as well and doesn't  give you mad-scientist hair in the process. That's it. You've just bent water using static electricity. Thanks for watching. For more information, be sure to check out About.com.
