Hi I’m Jade with About.com.  Today we are going to cover the life and times of Aristotle, possibly the smartest man to have ever lived.Aristotle was a Greek Philosopher who living during the 4th Century BC.  In addition to teaching some of the greatest men in history, Aristotle created the foremost thoughts in zoology, physics, logic, western philosophy, and many other subjects.Aristotle was born in 384BC, the son the personal physician to King Amyntas of Macedon.  Raised in the aristocracy, at 18 he moved to Athens in order to study under Plato at his academy.  There he would stay in tutelage for 20 years, until Plato’s death.  Leaving Athens he traveled to the island of Lesbos to study zoology and biology, meeting his wife and having a daughter. In 343 BC, he was invited by King Philip II of Macedon to tutor Philip’s son, who would become Alexander the Great.  While in Macedon, he was head of the royal academy, teaching not only Alexander, but also Ptolemy and Cassander, both future kings. He left Macedon to move back to Athens in 335BC, creating his own school, Lyceum.  The majority of his remaining work was created in the twelve years he spent teaching here.  As anti-Macedon sentient began to rise and wrongful suspicion of his involvement in Alexander the Great’s death mounted, Aristotle fled Athens. He died a year later, in 322BC, of natural causes. After his death, Aristotle’s work has continued to have a major impact on the world; his Lyceum was the training ground for many notable philosophers and his published works have been integral in classical and modern philosophy, influencing modern philosophers such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand.  Of all his work, it is estimated that only one-third still remains. One of his largest contributions to logic and deductive reasoning is his syllogism, a way of reasoning involving a major premise, a minor premise, and a conclusion.  Such as, All A’s are B’s / All B’s are C’s / So, All A’s are C’s.Thanks for watching.  For more information, please check out About.com
