Hi, I'm Jade and today with About.com I'm going to discuss the life and legacy of Julius Caesar's using tips from the About.com guide site.Julius Caesar was a roman leader at the end of the Roman Republic and led political changes that brought about the Roman Empire. He is noted by some historians as "the greatest man of all times."
Born on July 13 or 14 100 BC, 3 days before the ides of July, Julius Caesar was raised in a family of high social standings. It is believed that his lineage dated back to both the first King of Rome and the goddess Venus.
Appealing to the masses and threatening nobility, Julius Caesar was a general, law giver, statesman, speaker, and historian.Even though he was captured by pirates and threatened many times, he never lost a war. After Caesar won over Gaul, in 57 BC, he extended Rome's territory to the English Channel and the Rhine. Caesar was the first roman general to cross both the Rhine and channel as he invaded Britain. This victory provided Caesar with much political power, which resulted in a civil war that he won.As he rose to power, Caesar strengthened the Roman Empire by working to consolidate the government’s control and uniting the empire as a whole.
With more political control, Caesar created the first news sheet, Act Diurma.  Posted in plain sight on the forum for all to see, this document created transparency between the people and the Senate and Assembly. He also fixed the calendar to include 12 months, 365 days and a leap day every February that was commonly used until 1582 when the Gregorian forum was introduced.
Privately, Caesar was married four times, had numerous mistresses.  The most notable mistress was Cleopatra, with whom he had a son, that would become the king of Egypt.
Later in his life he was declared dictator for life. Some conspirators believed that he would try to become king and Marcus Brutus had him assassinated on the ides of March, 44BC.
His murder led to the 1st Roman Prince, his adopted heir, Emperor Augustus and the rise of the Roman Empire.
