Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at Walt Disney Pictures' 2011 CinemaCon Presentation.Walt Disney Pictures showed off their upcoming release slate at the 2011 CinemaCon, including one of the most anticipated films of the year: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth film of the Pirates series is the first of the lot to be shot in 3D and the first film of the franchise to be directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago). Marshall - along with producer Jerry Bruckheimer - took to the stage to introduce new footage from the action-adventure comedy and to provide some details on the film.

In On Stranger Tides, Johnny Depp's back as the swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow and this time around he's got a saucy pirate and a famous villain to deal with. Director Rob Marshall told the CinemaCon crowd that Penelope Cruz is the first fully realized female pirate of the Pirates series, and Marshall promised the audience that Blackbeard, played by Ian McShane, is the most evil Pirates villain yet.Without giving away any spoilers, the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides footage that Disney previewed at CinemaCon involved Depp as Jack Sparrow facing off against a king, zombies, and Blackbeard. The footage also provided more insight into the relationship between Cruz (who looks like she was born to play a pirate) and Depp, all while playing up the film's spectacular action scenes. After checking out about 20 minutes of footage, we spoke to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Rob Marshall about this fourth Pirates film. The fourth film of the series is in 3D. Why change it up now?Jerry Bruckheimer: "Because that puts you inside the film. It's another way to drag people away from their computers and video games - come see Pirates in 3D. But it's always about the storytelling, and it's wonderful storytelling. You have Johnny Depp back who's a great character. Audiences love him; he's the biggest movie star in the world. You have Penelope Cruz who's just these beautiful, great actress, Academy Award-winner. That's what you want, you want great actors and great storytelling. It's the same writers who wrote the first three Pirates. And then you bring in a brilliant director and it really helps things."Rob Marshall: "You're very kind."How big of a challenge is to to direct a guy who's already played this character three times and now you're stepping in?Rob Marshall: "Well, it's interesting. You know, Johnny was really anxious to have a director, I think, you know? Because there's always a danger with the fourth one that you sort of go off track and you start becoming a caricature of your own character. And so he was very anxious for me to sort of step up and be there for him, and help guide him through this. But for me it was just a total joy to watch this genius at work, absolutely."
