Hey, I'm Brice Sander for About.com, and today we're profiling ABC's hit fantasy drama, Once Upon a Time. The series takes place in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine, where all the residents are actually fairy tale characters, most from the Disney catalogue. The characters were transported from the fairy tale world to the "real" world by the Evil Queen, Regina.None of the characters remember their fairy tale identities. Instead, they have taken on new identities and are "trapped" in the real world. That is, until Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison, comes to town.It turns out Emma is the daughter of Snow White, played by Ginnifer Goodwin, and Prince Charming. She was sent to the real world before the curse took effect and is the only person who can break it. She has aged into adulthood while her parents have stayed the same age. Emma's brought back to Storybrooke by her son, Henry, who she gave up for adoption years ago. He was adopted by Regina, and somehow figured out Storybrooke's secret. The series flashes back and forth between the fantastic fairy tale world and Storybrooke as Emma unravels the mystery of the town and her family. Over time, the secret comes out and everyone's fairy tale identities, and memories, return ... while they're all still living in Storybrooke. In addition to the evil queen, Snow White and Prince Charming, the series continually introduces new characters, like Rumpelstiltskin, Red Riding Hood, Belle from Beauty and The Beast, and even Mulan.Once Upon a Time turned out to be a huge hit for ABC, the highest rated series debut for the 2011-2012 season. That was ABC's biggest debut in five years. It's the No. 1 non-sports program with viewers and young adults on Sunday nights. Once's debut season led to critical acclaim and even a People's Choice Award nomination. And that's a quick look at Once Upon a Time.
