Three pigs

Once upon a time there were three little pigs, who took a vacation to see the world. All summer long they wandered and played, making friends wherever they went. Everyone they met liked the three playful pigs.

But then came autumn and the trees dropped their leaves. The weather turned cold and it stared to rain buckets and buckets of water. The three little pigs knew they must return home to build houses to stay dry and safe through the winter. They decided to go bace to their valley and build three safe, warm houses for the winter.

The first little pig built a straw house, because he could build it in just one day. The other two pigs laughed, saying the straw house was too flimsy and would not last through the cold, windy winter. The first pig did not listen to his friends and built a very cute straw house with a few thin wooden poles to hold the straw together. The next day he was outside playing again.

The second pig wanted a stronger house, so built it out of wood. He hammered it together in a few days out of sturdy wooden boards.

“Your house is stronger than straw, but still not strong enough to protect you from the wolf,”said the third little pig, as he stood outsid the second pig’s house.

The second pig just laughed as he put the finishing touches on his wooden house. “My house will protect me from any wolf!”he said, and went outside to play.

So it came to be that the third pig built his house out of solid red brick. He carefully placed each brick until the house took shape. Each day he worked on it, the brick house grew larger and stronger. Even though his house took much longer to build and he didn’t have time to play, the third pig knew that not even a hungry wolf could get into his red brick house.

Sure enough, the day soon came when the wind howled through the forest and larghe snowflakes drifted down on the three little pigs’ houses. Winter had finally arrived. And with winter came a very hungry wolf, who wandered into the valley where the pigs’ houses sat. The three frightened pigs rushed to their houses, hoping to escape the wolf.

The big, bad wolf walded up to the first pig’s straw house and demanded the pig come out.

“Come out right now, or I’ll blow your house down!”yelled the hungry wolf.

The frightened little pig huddled nest to one of the poles that held the straw house in place. Hearing no answer from the pig, the wolf puffed out his chest and took a deep breath. Then he blew the house down, leaving only the thin poles standing. The first little pig rushed nest door to his brother’s wooden house.

At the second pig’s wooden house the two pigs leaned against the heavy door to keep it closed.

“Go away bad wolf! You can’t get into this house,”said the two scared pigs.

Now very angry and very hungry, the wolf drew in the biggest breath he could and blew so hard that the wooden house collapsed like a pack of cards. The two pigs were left with just the door standing up. They raced to the third pig’s brick house for safety.

The wolf was right behind them, hammering at the brick house’s front door. This tine he wasn’t in the mood to even order them out of the house. Instead, he blew as hard as he could but nothing happened. The house was still standing. So the wolf blew again, and again, until he could blow no more. Yet the red brick house stood its ground.

By now very angry, the wolf climbed up the brick house’s roof to look down its chimney. He reached the top and carefully walked to the chimney. At that moment a noise inside the house startled the wolf. He turned to look behind him and his long tail dropped down into the chimney.

“Quick, light a fire in the fireplace!”said one of the pigs.

When they lit the fire one of the burning embers caught the surprised wolf’s tail on fire. Yelping in surprise the wolf jumped off the roof and ran out of the pigs’ valley, looking for water to dunk his tail in and put out the flames.

“He’s gone! The wicked wolf is gone!” sang the happy pigs as they danced in a circle outside the red brick house.

“we’re safe! We’re safe, all because of the brick house.”

Having learned their lessons, the first two pigs set about building sturdy red brick houses for themeseves. In less than no time at all their houses were finished and all three little pigs could play safely again, knowing that their houses would protect them from the winter weather and hungry wolves.

The hungry wolf did come back again to roam the valley, searching for food. But when he saw three brick chimneys, he remembered his burnt tail and ran away for good, with his tail clamped tightly between his legs.
