What Are the Different Learning Styles?
What are the three major learning styles?
Hi! This is Meghan Lynn Allen for About.com, and today we'll discuss what are the different learning styles.Auditory learners often talk to themselves. They may move their lips or read aloud, and often have difficulty with reading and writing tasks. They like to hear - that's the way that they learn. So perhaps they might talk out loud to a colleague or into a tape recorder. You may be an auditory learner if you're someone who's not afraid to speak up in class, enjoys oral reports or acting, being on stage, and is someone who is good at studying in groups.Visual learners have two subgroups: visual linguistics, and visual spatial. Visual linguistic learners learn from language - they like to read and write. The visual spatial learners aren't so fond of reading and writing and they enjoy things like demonstrations, graphs, videos and other visual materials. You may be a visual learner if you're good at spelling, but forget names; if you need quiet time before a test or an exam; if you dream in color or enjoy colors and fashion, or are good at sign language.Kinesthetic learners do best when touching or moving, and there are two sub channels to this style of learning: kinesthetic (moving) and tactile (touch). Kinesthetic learners tend to lose focus if there's no external stimulation or movement. They may take notes during the lecture, just for the sake of moving their hands. Kinesthetic learners learn by moving, experiencing, and doing things. You may be a kinesthetic learner if you're good at sports; if you can't sit still for long; you find yourself fidgety in the classroom, or you enjoy listening to loud music. You may recognize your learning style quickly, or you may need to go online and take some quizzes to figure out exactly how you learn best. Or you may need to speak to your teacher or guidance counselor - a professional who can help you determine your learning style. Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
