Golf Shoes 101
The first thing to look for when you buy a pair of golf shoes is
I'm PGA Professional Todd Kolb for About.com. We're going to talk about golf shoes. If you're going to be playing any golf on a regular basis, you're going to want to invest in a pair of golf shoes. Now, what do we want to look for when it comes to buying a pair of golf shoes and what makes golf shoes more valuable then just your regular pair of tennis shoes? The first thing is that a pair of golf shoes is going to have some grip or some traction on the bottom which is going to be important for your golf swing and creating some stability. Now on the bottom, to create this grip, all golf shoes these days have what we call soft spikes. Now there are also spikes called metal spikes but those are only allowed right now on the PGA Tour. Any golf course that you're going to play these days is going to want you to have what we call soft spikes on the bottom, and almost any pair of golf shoes you buy from a retail store or even in a golf shop is going to already have soft spikes with them.Another advantage of a pair of golf shoes is that they're going to keep your feet nice and dry. If you're playing any golf early in the morning when there's dew on the ground or you happen to play it when it's raining, you're going to want to have a pair of shoes that will keep your feet nice and dry.The last thing I want to tell you about purchasing a pair of golf shoes is don't be afraid to spend a little money. You're going to be spending a lot of time on your feet and walking when you're playing a round of golf and you're certainly going to get a better round of golf and have a better day if your feet are comfortable and investing in a good pair of golf shoes is certainly part of that.
