Tips for Buying Used Golf Clubs
Do not buy a used golf club
Hi golfers, I'm PGA Professional Todd Kolb for About.com. We're going to talk about how to buy used golf clubs.A used set of golf clubs of course has been used, so there's going to be some wear and tear on them. Now let me give you a couple ideas or a couple suggestions and things that you should look for. Like in the woods, if there's some wear and tear on the top, maybe some nicks or a few light scratches on the top of the golf club, that is perfectly fine. It's not going to affect the performance of the golf club. On the flip side, if the face of it has a dent in it or the face actually has some damage to it then I would stay away from this particular style of golf club.Another thing that you're going to want to consider is the club shaft, whether it be the irons or the woods. If there are any dents in it or kinks in it, you want to stay away from that because it's going to greatly affect the performance. Now some club shafts are graphite and they might have a little bit of paint worn off and things like that, but that isn't going to affect the performance. The last thing is the grip. Now, most used golf clubs, the grip of course is going to be pretty worn but that's not a big deal because grips are easy to replace and they don't cost much money if you actually have to do that. When it comes time to purchase a set of used golf clubs, there are primarily two areas where you're going to get them. You can either buy them at a golf shop or a retail outlet, or you can buy them online. Let's go through these two options and the benefits of both. The first thing, if you're going to go into a retail store or even a local golf shop and buy a set of used golf clubs, the benefit of that is you actually get to see it, feel it and touch it. You can maybe even get a chance to actually hit a couple and you know exactly what you're purchasing, and you also might be getting some help from the person who's there in terms of what the right style might be for you.If you're going to buy a set of used golf clubs online, I would make sure and look that it's a reputable company and it's something you have confidence in buying. You just don't know exactly what you're going to get; you might save a few dollars but there also have a little bit of unawareness in terms of what you're actually going to get when it comes time to them arriving in the mail. So there's benefits to both and make sure you're comfortable with whatever style or whatever direction you decide to go with those.Another thing you want to consider is that there are a lot of websites that will give you a term in terms of the value of the club that you're purchasing, almost like in used cars. If you go online, you can find an area in a couple different resources that will tell you what the specific set of golf clubs that you're looking at is actually worth in terms of resell value. Now I would strongly encourage you to do a little bit of research before you actually went ahead and purchased something. The other thing you might want to consider is a lot of the major manufacturers in golf actually have buy back programs now where they'll buy back a set of used golf clubs that you might already have.So there are a lot of options when it comes to buying a used set of golf clubs; primarily make sure you're getting good information before you spend your hard-earned dollars and you'll find that the used set might be the perfect option for you.
