The adult brain weighs about three pounds and it has reached its full and maximum size by the time we are six years old. An interesting fact about the human brain is that it is made up mostly of water and fat. Our brain mediates everything we do as it is the center of the nervous system. It is a complex organ and it floats in the cranium in a liquid called cerebrospinal fluid.The brain is made up of three main parts: the cerebrum, the brain stem, and the cerebellum. The cerebrum, also referred to as the forebrain, is the most complex of the three main parts. Responsible for our learning, remembering and feeling it also performs activities such as chewing, hearing, smelling, tasting, seeing and many other crucial human functions. The brainstem, as its name indicates, looks like the stem of a branch. The brainstem is made up of the midbrain and the hindbrain. The midbrain is located on the upper part of the brainstem and it responsible for sending and receiving information. The spinal cord is connected to the brain via the brainstem.
