If you're working to lower or maintain your LDL and triglyceride levels, here are some foods that can help you accomplish this goal.Foods high in soluble fiber are known to help lower LDL levels and are therefore some of the best low-cholesterol foods. Oatmeal makes a great breakfast and is an excellent low-cholesterol food. You can also enjoy high fiber cereals featuring barley, oats, or whole grains. Toast or sandwiches made with whole grain bread are certainly preferable to those made with bleached flower, and swapping out white rice for brown can up the amount of soluble fiber in a meal, thus helping to reduce one's LDL cholesterol.Vegetables, especially dark, leafy, green ones, are some of the best low-cholesterol foods around. Broccoli and kale are two great choices, either in a meal or by themselves. Consider ordering a bowl of tomato soup, or adding tomatoes to your salad – either way it's a low-cholesterol meal! Legumes are another excellent source of soluble fiber that will help to lower LDL levels, so think about stocking up on kidney, pinto, and black beans the next time you're at the market. Cold water fatty fish, like Salmon and Halibut, are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, and can help lower LDL cholesterol levels. A grilled or baked salmon fillet with asparagus on the side is both delicious and heart-healthy.Finally, when you want to snack, you should avoid deep fried foods like chips, and avoid sugary treats like cookies. Pick a healthy alternative in the nut family, such as almonds or walnuts, which are rich in fiber and monounsaturated fat.
