Hi I am Gina here with some ideas on how to include high fiber in a low carb diet.Many people think that have to lose the benefits of fiber if they are on a low carb diet. Eating high fiber is actually very important for low carb diets. Food high in fiber have a strong impact on how sugars and starches are metabolized and prevent the rise and fall of blood glucose levels that cause severe damage to our cells.Also A high fiber diet is associated with lower risk for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and colon disease.The best high fiber foods for a low carb diet are non-starchy vegetables. Greens, collards, salads, avocados and sprouts are a few that are low in carbs. But foods like carrots, corn, squash are very high in carbs, and should be avoided. Also, high fiber low carb fruits include lemon, lime, rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, blueberries and strawberries.Melons, and pineapple are more dense and higher in carbs and sugars and should be avoided.Here is a tip: When counting carbs in vegetables or fruits, the fiber is not counted, and can be subtracted from the total grams of carbs. For example if a food has 20 grams of carbs and 8 grams of fiber, you would subtract 8 from 20 equaling a total of 12 total net grams of carbs, which is considered a healthy low carb, high fiber food.Research online and at your local book store or library for list of high fiber foods that are low in carbs, and keep the list with you at all times as a handy reference guide to keep you on track with your low carb diet.These are tips on including high fiber into a low carb diet.Thank you for watching and for more information visit About.com
