Hi, I am Kari Britton, an RN, here today with About.com Health to share what to eat after phase 1 on the South Beach diet.Usually at about two weeks after starting the diet, you can add carbohydrates, slowly and carefully back into your diet. Weight loss slows to a about 1-2 pounds per week. This is a time when you can decide how much and what types of carbohydrates you can eat and still feel good and lose weight.Dr. Agatston recommends first adding one daily serving of a carb previously forbidden. Try a low glycemic fruit such as berries and monitor your body's response, particularly in regards to carb cravings. If you feel no major changes, then add another, like a serving of a whole grains, and continue in the same way.If at any point you get a negative reaction, try a different food, with a lower glycemic index. Refer to the glycemic index in the South Beach diet book for a complete list and to understand which foods are lowest to expand your food choices, to continue weight lose at a slower rate and to continue to eat the types and amounts of carbs that limit cravings and weight gain for you personally.Portion control is key, follow the instructions in the book to know the proper serving size when re-introducing carbs.Thank you for watching, and for more information, visit the web at About.com.
