Top Tips for Coping With Asthma
Asthmatics often have trouble _____________ in cold weather.
Hello, I'm Dr. Robert Eitches, here for About.com. Today I'll be giving you tips for coping with asthma.Don't set yourself up in a situation which is likely to cause an asthma attack, for example, if you are allergic to cats, don't go to someone's house that has a cat. If you have a choice choose your living situation wisely. Don't move into an apartment that is above or next to a neighbor who smokes on his terrace. If you can live in a cleaner environment, don't live 20 yards from the freeway or in an area close to refineries or chemical plants. Don't move next to the golf course if you have strong pollen allergies.Asthmatics often have trouble exercising in cold weather. If it's cold outdoors, exercise indoors. Warm up with slow deep nasal breathing before any rigorous physical exercise. If you catch a cold, don't overdue physical activity and possibly increase your medication. Have a rescue inhaler available for any flare-ups. You may want to keep another one at work. Also, it is wise to have one in your emergency kit.If you find your daily life is compromised, be it wheezing that awakens you at night, laughter that causes you to go into a coughing spasm, being unable to go up a flight of stairs easily, then you may need daily medication to keep your asthma in check.
