Jesse Eisenberg Zombieland Interview
When asked about why people like zombies so much what does Jesse say about them?
Jesse Eisenberg: "Woody Harrelson and I had the exact same experience where we let the script collect dust in our house for maybe a few weeks at a time because it said Zombieland. And then we both had again the same experience opening it up and seeing on page one that it was actually clever, actually touching. The characters were actually well rounded, more so than most independent dramas that I read where focus should be on character. So, having said that, the movie is so unique in that way. It's actually really sweet and really, really funny. And the zombies I look at as almost secondary, as almost a vehicle for that story to happen."
What's the freakiest thing you've ever done to prepare for a role?
Jesse Eisenberg: "The last movie I did I played like a Hasidic Jew so I for a month period of time I pretended I was like wanting to become a Hasidic Jew so I could infiltrate their culture, and they could teach me. Personally, I'm going to hell."
You did this for a whole month?
Jesse Eisenberg: "No, not every day. I was involved in the movie for two years so over the course of two years I would go there all the time. And then a month before the movie started every day doing stuff like this."
Why do we still love zombies? Why are we still so fascinated?
Jesse Eisenberg: "Well, it's a movie premiere so they have no choice. But, jeez I have no idea because frankly I don't really care about the zombies in the movie. What's interesting is it's mostly a comedy. So, I don't know. If you're just in it for the zombies, then I mean you'll still like this movie because it's a zombie movie. But I can not explain the fascination. But who can explain the fascination with anything that's popular?"
What's your favorite zombie movie of all time?
Jesse Eisenberg: "This one. I have never seen any other zombie movies and as a narcissist, yeah."
