Sterling Knight Interview - 17 Again
Sterling Knight believes everybody can relate to being
Sterling Knight: "I'm awesome. How are you?
I'm pretty good and you're pretty good in this movie, and you get to play basketball and everything. Are you skilled like that?
Sterling Knight: "I don't know. I feel a little pretentious saying yes but I mean I've always been kind of athletic. We worked with really good people that really made it look like we knew what we were doing. The credit goes to them, definitely."
Now how easy is it to play a guy who's actually kind of geeky, kind of nerdy, who comes out of his shell?
Sterling Knight: "It's easy because I was kind of going through that process when I booked the film. I was kind of breaking out of my shell and growing up. I was coming out of that awkward phase that everybody goes through. The timing was just kind of perfect for it. I think everybody can relate to being bullied and picked on and whatnot. I was just lucky enough to be with a cast that was talented and nice enough to kind of show me the ropes because I definitely had no idea what I was doing."
How difficult is it to play a character who's tied up to a toilet?
Sterling Knight: "That was actually a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. You know, while you're taped and you can't do anything it makes…"
Were you really taped?
Sterling Knight: "I was really taped. There was no special effects, no rig. I was duct taped to the toilet and sitting on my hands. It was good times, good times."
Couldn't they just let you pretend?
Sterling Knight: "You'd think. But I think it adds that other element of, 'You really need to get me off of the toilet. My hands are turning purple and this is painful.'"
Did [Zac] pull off hair when he removed the tape?
Sterling Knight: "I'll keep that to myself. It wasn't enjoyable, I'll say that though."
Not something you'd want to go through again?
Sterling Knight: "Not the most painless thing I'd ever been through, I'll say that."
Would you want to go through your teen years one more time?
Sterling Knight: "No, definitely not. No. You know, I went through it, it was fun. I'm at where I'm at now because of what happened. I think to kind of go back and change it, I don't know where I'd be."
So tell people like me who haven't seen your TV series Sonny with a Chance why I should watch it?
Sterling Knight: "It's wholesome because it's on the Disney channel but the thing is we've really tried to bring in this drier comedy that can really kind of relate to older people. So you can totally watch it with the whole family. Do you know what I mean? I don't know. It's just a fun time, especially if you're in the industry. We get to kind of play with that because it's a show within a show. You get to kind of play with some of the ridiculousness of backstage and whatnot. It's fun."
