Gary Cole Interview - Hop
What movie do fans of Gary Cole remember him for best?
Why don't we see movies about the Easter Bunny? Why is that?Gary Cole: "I don't know, but you might see more now."You're starting a trend.Gary Cole: "I don't know. I guess Christmas had cornered the market on holiday celebration movies, but somebody had another idea."Bunnies are so cute, you'd think we'd see more bunny movies.Gary Cole: "Well, there's been bunny movies but nobody had hooked him up with Easter yet."So you didn't have to interact with the fake bunny?Gary Cole: "We did a little bit. But I believe the scene that we actually shot where we were actually face to face with E.B. I think is eliminated."But it'll be on the DVD.Gary Cole: "Of course."What's the appeal of signing on to an Easter movie?Gary Cole: "When I got the material, I saw that Russell Brand was going to be the voice. I'm a big fan of his. I wasn't familiar with Tim [Hill] personally, but I knew of some of his stuff. I was also a fan of James Marsden's. So, that's what you look at. You look at that and a combination of the material and you go from there."Have you seen the completed film?Gary Cole: "No, I have not."Okay then, from the script do you know if it's for adult audiences too or is it strictly for kids?Gary Cole: "I'm going to say, I'm not sure what the rating is..."I think it's a PG.Gary Cole: "Is it a PG rating? I think it's a family movie, per se. I think there may be things in it that may be designed more for, there may be moments designed more for adults that may go past kids. But, I don't know. I haven't seen it. I don't know if they pushed that envelope or not. But from what I gather and from what I remember, it's pretty much of a family movie."Do you know every time I see you I think of your past movies.Gary Cole: "Is that good or bad?Good, you've done so many movies that crack me up that I always remember your past characters.Gary Cole: "Oh good."When fans come up to you, what is it that they remember best?Gary Cole: "Usually it's probably from the movie Office Space. I would say 80-90% of the time if somebody spots me, that's what it's for."Does that bother you?Gary Cole: "No, I'm okay with that. You sometimes wonder if you'll be in anything that has any kind of an impact. It hasn't seemed to put me in some kind of category so far. It's only really benefited me. If it has labeled me as something, it has benefited me more than not."I watch that every time it's on TV.Gary Cole: "It turned out well. When you can be involved in something that lasts a while...that movie is 12 years old."
