Last House on the Left - Aaron Paul Interview

Rebecca Murray from About.com Hollywood Movies at the World Premiere of The Last House on the Left.
Aaron Paul – 'Francis' in The Last House on the Left

You are horrible in this movie, not as in acting but as a person.
Aaron Paul: "I know. He is a very, very mean person."

How much fun was it to play such a mean guy?

Aaron Paul: "So much fun. I've never played someone this sadistic in my life. I'm so opposite, thank god. But it's nice to jump into different shoes and play different characters."

When you read that script, you automatically said yes?

Aaron Paul: "You know, when I first heard that I got this appointment I'm like, 'Why are they remaking Last House on the Left? What are they doing?' They always destroy these remakes. The original was such a cult classic, and so I was a little bit leery about it going in. But they sent me over Dennis' first film that he wrote, produced and directed called Hardcore - that's our director – and it was brilliant. And so I read the script with his vision in mind, or what I thought his vision would be and I'm like, 'Wow, it's interesting.' He's a very artistic, raw director. You feel like you're a fly on the wall in the room with these characters so I'm really excited to see what he has done with this."

You haven't seen it yet?

Aaron Paul: "No. I saw bits of it at a screening, so I'm excited to see the whole entirety."

Audiences really love your special scene. I'm not going to say because I think that's giving it away.

Aaron Paul: "Yes, my 'special' scene is pretty intense. I was really excited about shooting that."

Were you really?

Aaron Paul: "Yeah, I was."

Why?

Aaron Paul: "Because I've always wanted to you know… You know what I'm saying… You know."

This is such a good interview.

Aaron Paul: "Bad people die in horror movies so I was really excited about it."

At the screening I went to your death elicited the best comment. The guy said, "Revive him and kill him again!"

Aaron Paul: "I saw my death at that screening and everyone applauded so it was great."

You can't help but applaud. He's horrible.

Aaron Paul: "I think it's fantastic. I'm glad that people find me horrible."

What sets this apart from every other horror movie? What makes this one special?

Aaron Paul: "I don't really consider this one a horror movie. I consider this as an artistic home invasion thriller. And it's rare that you see artistic slasher flicks so this completely sets it apart."

And if you had been in the parents' shoes, could you have stood up for your kid by killing people off?

Aaron Paul: "100%, are you serious? Of course. Wouldn't you? Absolutely. If my child's in danger, if my child was…you know… I don't want to give stuff away so just watch it."
