Writer/Director Andrew Fleming and Writer Pam Brady

How do you guys actually work as a team when you're writing?

Andrew Fleming: "Beautifully."

No arguments?

Pam Brady: "There are some arguments. "

Andrew Fleming: "Throw things at each other. There's crying. And then there's laughter, too."

Pam Brady: "It's sort of like primal scream therapy. We just go with it. We go with a feeling and we embrace our passion. We often like working at friends' houses because we will just break things, flip tables."

Andrew Fleming: "Authorities have been called."

Who actually wins in most of these arguments?

Pam Brady: "He's bigger. He fights."

Andrew Fleming: "She's wilier."

Pam Brady: "I am wilier. I will fight dirty but when he gets angry, he just actually goes like this and pounds my head down."

Andrew Fleming: "She makes me think I've won but really she wins."

Is Hamlet 2 the absolute worst idea for a sequel you could come up with?

Andrew Fleming: "Yes. We tried as hard as we possibly could."

Where did this come from?

Andrew Fleming: "Well, it's not really a sequel to Hamlet, it's about a teacher writing a sequel to Hamlet. So it's really about the teacher, but we just like saying Hamlet 2 because it sounds so idiotic."

Pam Brady: "But it is true. Someone did actually at Sundance called it Hamlet 1 and we just hugged each other. We were so happy. If that ever happened in a real way…"

Andrew Fleming: "If people start referring to Shakespeare's Hamlet as Hamlet 1… that was an extra practical joke."

Pam Brady: "That's all that matters."

And getting Steve Coogan on the set, that must be fantastic. Did you just let him go? Did he do a lot of improv?

Andrew Fleming: "He's always got another idea. No, he took the ball and ran with it. He comes up with zowies."

That's a really good descriptive term. That's not bad for Sunday at Comic Con to come up with a zowie.

Pam Brady: "He'll do over 11 zowies per hour."

How do you know when to rein him back then if he's got so much zowie in him?

Andrew Fleming: "You pretty much have to rein him in all the time. He's like a nuclear reactor. He can do this crazy giant version of a scene, but he can also do this small subtle version. He's like a Maserati. Dangerous but exciting."

What's next for you two?

Pam Brady: "Well we are working on something about the future. It may have a sci-fi element."

Comedy?

Pam Brady: "Not comedy. Wouldn't that be great? It'll end up being comedy because we're trying to make it serious. We were going an Oscar. We're just going for an Oscar. We just want hardware so we're going to try to write the most important movie ever."
