Vince Vaughn and Elizabeth Banks Interviews - Fred Claus
Before Fred Clause what was Elizabeth Banks' favorite holiday movie?
Telling me about reuniting with David Dobkin.
Vince Vaughn: "Well David's my favorite. You know we did Clay Pigeons together and then we did Wedding Crashers of course. And this might be the best of all of them. This movie is really funny and really smart. Adults are really loving it. It's got that great Christmas magic and heart to it that you want in a Christmas movie. Kids have really gone crazy for the film as well. It's just so nice this time of year to be able to put something out that really makes families feel good and something that everyone can see."
How tough is it for you, especially with improv, to keep it at a PG level?
Vince Vaughn: "Not hard at all because you know what the tone was and we didn't sacrifice any of the comedy. We just didn't go to as extreme situations. We kept it more smart and fun situations."
So there is no R rated cut of this that we'll ever see?
Vince Vaughn: "No, no, no, no."
It's strictly a family comedy.
Vince Vaughn: "It's strictly a family comedy, but that being said, there's some pretty funny, smart stuff in it that everyone responds to."
How do you improv with Russian actors?
Vince Vaughn: "Well, those guys were great. They really inspired me every day. They work in a circus there in Russia. They've got such a great sense of community. They're all so tight with each other, they really brightened my day every day."
Naughty or nice list usually?
Vince Vaughn: "Naughty, but hopefully in a nice way."
What is the appeal for you of doing a holiday movie?
Elizabeth Banks: "I sort of looked at this movie as just doing a movie. I didn't think about it as a holiday movie. I'm really excited that it's specifically for the holidays, but it's a great story regardless. It's about brothers and family and belief and supporting your family. To me it's timeless."
And you're playing Santa's helper?
Elizabeth Banks: "I play Santa's little helper, Charlene, his right hand. I'm mostly an accountant at the North Pole. So I keep track of all the numbers."
Before Fred Claus what was your favorite holiday movie?
Elizabeth Banks: "Bad Santa."
Why? Did you connect with that one?
Elizabeth Banks: "I thought it was the funniest movie I'd seen in a long time and Billy Bob Thornton is hilarious in it."
And working with Vince Vaughn?
Elizabeth Banks: "Working with Vince Vaughn? Great. He keeps you on your toes."
Do you like improv?
Elizabeth Banks: "I love improv, yeah."
Were you allowed to?
Elizabeth Banks: "Yeah, we were. We did a lot of it on the movie. A lot of it's in the movie. Paul's a genius at it, too, Paul Giamatti. Any time you're with Vince you have to be on your toes and ready to go. Anything can come up."
