Mary Elizabeth Winstead - 'Ramona Flowers' in Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Hello, you look gorgeous.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "Thank you so much."

So different than Ramona.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "Right, very different than Ramona, yes."

Was she a fun character to get into?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "She was very fun. She was also a bit of a dark character. I had to delve deep and get in touch with some darker emotions to play somebody who's a little bit rougher than myself."

This is a really bizarre movie. I don't think I expected it to be quite so bizarre because I hadn't read the graphic novel. How would you describe it?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "It is indescribable really There's no way to fit it in any certain box, you know? It's comic book action, comedy, music, romance... I think it really just speaks to an entire generation who's grown up with all of those things, and it's finally kind of been melded into one movie. And it also really resonates emotionally on a lot of levels. It really kind of packs a punch, and in the end you really feel for these characters and you really relate to all of them. It's just great."

And you get to fight.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "I do."

Was that fun?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "It was so much fun. It was so empowering to get to train and to get to do these moves that I never imagined I would do, and to get to work with these stunt guys who are really tough and real deal stunt guys. And you know they ended up being so proud of us, and it was so wonderful to make them proud."

What was the toughest thing they put you through?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "Oh man, definitely the scene on the pyramid between Ellen and I - the fight scene. There was one long take of that that we had to do over and over and over again. Like normally you're doing little bits and pieces at a time, but we had to do it - they wanted one long take where we were doing the whole fight. That was a whole day of doing a whole fight over and over and over again, and I was like exhausted by the end of it. It was challenging."

Why should people see Scott Pilgrim?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead: "Scott Pilgrim is completely different than anything else out there. It's completely different than anything else that's ever been out there, you know? I think it's really a moment in time that you need to take part of and you need to go see it, because I think 10 years from now people are still going to be talking about it. I really believe that. I think it's a really special film."
