Brandon Routh Interview-Scott Pilgrim vs the World
If given some time Brandon can learn to play a song on
Brandon Routh: "They might. They probably just don't tell everybody because they don't want everybody to have telekinesis because it's such a cool thing. I have no doubt that some people have developed who knows what."
He is a really bizarre character. How much fun was it getting into this guy?
Brandon Routh: "Pretty easy, because I'm a pretty bizarre individual, so I just sat at home and I just thought about myself a lot. No, yeah, it was great character, a big, outlandish character, something that I was really wanting to be able to play. Totally different from Superman and just a little bit crazy and out there, so it was awesome."
Talk about your fight scene because it's pretty incredible in this.
Brandon Routh: "Yes, it's quite epic. It's Michael Cera and I battling, dueling bass guitars. I had to learn bass for this."
Are you good?
Brandon Routh: "I do all right. If you give me some practice time, I can learn a song. But a lot of the other actors who play exes have to fight hand-to-hand. But I don't really throw any punches with Michael. We just battle over music, which music is a huge aspect of the movie so that was cool to have that theme running through my fight."
This is the most bizarre movie of the summer. How would you describe it? If someone had never heard of Scott Pilgrim, what would you tell them?
Brandon Routh: "That is a bit of a challenge, but it is a hyper-realized, hyper-stylized romantic comedy. It's a comic book turned video game turned movie in a way. There are no rules in this movie so you go for a love story and you're amazed by everything else that happens. It's kind of a movie for all the senses. It can't be explained, it can only be experienced. That's what it is."
