How to Paint With Acrylic Paint
音量
Hi, I'm Jacob Taxis for About.com. In this video you will learn how to paint with acrylic paint. You'll need:Prepare a painting surface – also known as a support, by laying down a layer or two of gesso with a wide brush, if the canvas does not come already primed. Gesso adequately seals your support, protecting it from any damage that paint may cause. When finished, wash out your brush with soap and water.Prepare your palette. Because acrylic paint dries quickly, use only small amounts of paint at a time. You can increase your paint's workability by keeping a spray bottle at hand.As you work, occasionally mist your palette to keep the paint moist. Give the support an underpaint with a thin layer of color. This method gives you a good base tone to begin with - an alternative to painting on a bright white canvas. Using the same color as the underpaint, mark in the large, general shapes of your composition. Then lay down the subject's values from dark to light. Value is the measure of lightness or darkness of a color.Acrylic paint can be diluted and thinned with water. In this form you can use the paint like you would with watercolor, by building up the colors with glazes. If you'd like a liquid flow but what to retain the color intensity - you can use a flow improver medium. Mediums should be mixed right into your acrylic paint.Due to the wide variety of mediums – you have a lot of options available for creating an ideal level of viscosity.Paint in your color tones starting from dark to light.
Keep your brushes refreshed by occasionally rinsing them in your water jar. Before you begin to paint again, dab the wet brush onto a paper towel or rag. This will help prevent large drops of water from splashing onto your work. When the paint dries on your support, it is fixed and insoluble. You cannot go back in to blend or lift out color – as you can with watercolor and oil. With acrylic you can build upon a dried layer, knowing it will remain unshaken by the fresh layer. Go in with the final touches of paint to bring forth the highlights and to further accentuate the dark areas.Thoroughly clean your brushes with soap in lukewarm water. When the painting is dry, add a layer of varnish. This will give your piece a measure of brilliance and will protect it against the effects of pollution and dust.
