How to Win Scrabble
Question
Try to arrange high point words, or letters, over
Hi, I'm Aubrey for About.com. Today, I'm going to go over a few techniques to win at Scrabble. To get started, I'll explain how to end a Scrabble match. 1. The Scrabble game is over if a player passes on their turn two times in a row. The match is over when all players have executed all possible moves. 2. Finally, the game is over if all of the tiles have be selected from the bag and one of the players has places all of their letters on the board. After tallying all of the points, the player with the highest score wins. If someone plays all of their tiles in a single word, they receive a 50 point bonus, to be added after doubling or tripling the score. How to Improve your chances of winning:
Tip 1: Try to arrange high point words or letters over the bonus squares on the board. These colorful squares are multipliers, they will increase the total value of a letter or entire word, depending on the color of the square. Though your focus should be on accumulating the most points possible. You also want to make it harder for your opponents to play words on these squares.
Tip 2: Build your vocabulary. Having a strong vocabulary can dramatically increase your chances of winning. Consider learning words that will help you get out of a tight spot. Words that have lots of vowels, for example, or those comprised primarily of consonants can help you deal with a difficult rack of letters. Also, knowing words with letters like "z" and "q" can help you score higher points. Knowing lots of two letter words can also help you earn extra points.
Tip 3: Hooks are a great way to earn additional points. A hook is created by adding a letter to a pre-existing word. By doing this, you will earn points for your new word as well as the word you just modified.Tip 4: Create Parallel words. Two and three letter words are very handy in building parallel words on the board, earning you points for each new word that is created. You simply need to make sure that any of the letters that are touching (both vertically and horizontally) create real words.
