Hi, I'm Sonia Jones. I'm a professional singing teacher and I'm going to give you tips and advice on how to sing. Now, singing in tune and pitch, this is one of the hardest things to teach someone because you're got to train their ears. Now, a lot of people have come to me, students now, they are so used to singing along with artists on a CD that they don't sing by themselves, and when you take that vocal of the artist away from them, they tend to drop in pitch because their ear is what we call a lazy ear. So, the best way to train a lazy ear is go to a music lesson if you can with the pianist and sing songs and really concentrate on honing into the tuning of the piano or again get yourself a recording device and sing along with backing tracks and play back, and sing along and play back. So, you start training your ear. That's the only way to sing in pitch. Now, for singing in pitch, if you can't afford to go and see a singing teacher or you haven't got a keyboard at home, most of the devices, you know, like the new iPhone, Blackberry, all these new phones, they've all got apps and you can download a little keyboard, put your headphones on and just play the keyboards one at a time and sing back that tune. So, if it's a CD, sing the CD back and that starts training your ear without ay cost. Also for pitch, a very good exercise is to sing harmony with another person and stick to your notes because that trains the ear. It's a very very good way for you to train your ear and, you know, sing the tonic and then the third with a friend and try and keeping in tune, and that's about it. If you're tone deaf, then I don't think singing lessons are going to help. .
