How many hours a day is the kettle used in the example?
Hi, my name is Charles, and I am one of the math teachers from the Maxim Workshop. I am just going to now teach you how to do some math. In this video, I am going to show you how to calculate in kilowatt hours. Kilowatt hours is a measure of energy, okay. So within actual unit, you used to find the word kilowatt. Now, it's important not to associate this power as, power is a measurement of kilowatts or watts. Now, energy is basically power times times. So if you look at the units Kwh, you find that you have the power here which is just the kilowatts. And you have your time measurement here with your hours, okay. So a classic case is when you want to calculate your kilowatt hours, is when you consider power eighteen on your kettle, okay. Now you have three n variables noted on your kettle. We just look at the bottom of your kettle and you see that you have the watts, which would probably be something like 1800 watts. And you have voltage reading equal to, say something like 220 volts. And then you have frequency reading equal to say something like 40 hertz. Now, when you are calculating kilowatt hours, it is important to also know that these two are relevant. These numbers are there just to relate to other factors of your kettle. So that might just be the amount of electricity or the maximum amount of electricity that might flow through a second. That's more than it has to do with the voltage. The important thing to realize is your watts, okay. Now, if you were given a particular question where it says that the kettle is always used for two hours a day, you might wanna say then, what is the kilowatt usage per day. That's simple, the first thing you need to do is take your power region which is 1800 watts and change that to kilowatts, okay. So the first thing we do then is to divide this thing by a thousand. So the decimal point is here, again a thousand loops like that, so three zeros. What you have to do is make three jumps to the left and that will give us 1.8 kilowatts. Now the next thing you want to do again is how much usage in terms of hours. So, if the kettle runs two hours, all you need to do is multiply this time reading by your power reading to give you energy. So, energy in kilowatt hours now is basically a multiplication of this by this. So, you would have 1.8 times two kilowatt hours. And that's basically 3.6 kilowatt hours. So, that's how you calculate kilowatt hours.
