In this video, I'm going to show you how to find the percentage of a number. So, with percentages, that is in French for out of a hundred. So, percent, for instance, 50 percent means 50 out of a 100, or written mathematically, 50 divided by a 100. Or 20 percent is 20 out of a 100, etc. Or for instance, 5.4 percent is 5.4 out of a 100. So, you can always put it over a hundred. That's what percent means. So, to find a percentage of a number, let's say you took an exam, and it's marked out of let's say 80. So, the exam is out of 80 marks. And let's say you score, you know you need to score 60% to get an A, so that's 60 percent to get an A. So, that means you need to figure out 60 percent of 80, to figure out how many marks you're going to need to get an A. So, to figure out 60 percent of 80, we write down 60% mathematically like we did here. So, that's 60 out of a 100, okay? Now, mathematically, whenever you hear the word “of” that means multiply. So, that's 60 percent of 80, so that's the statement written mathematically. You're trying to find 60 percent out of 80. So, you put this in your calculator: 60 divided by a 100, times 80. Now, that's going to be 48. So, that means you're going to need 48 marks out of 80 to get an A. And, whenever you want to find the percentage of any number, you write down the percentage, like we did here, out of a hundred. So, let's say 22 percent of 500. So, you always think “of” means multiply and “out of” your whole number here, that's 22 percent of 500 hundred. That's going to be 110. If you put this in a calculator, you'll get 110. And that's how you find the percentage of a number. .
