Hello. I'm Dr. Rachelle Wolosoff. Founder of CollegeSearchExpert.com and I'm here for About.com. I'm going to give you some tips for college interviews. If you have the opportunity to interview at a college take them up on it.If it's optional, take them up on it. This is your opportunity to show that your more than just paper credentials. And by the way, have in mind that this is a two way street. You want to know about their college and they want to know about you.Prepare well before you go for an interview. Look at that website. Know the ins and outs of your major. And then be prepared to ask questions. And, questions that you can not find on their website. Bring a pad and pen with you. Take notes as you're speaking. Shows interest and seriousness. Be very cognizant of how you're going to dress. So, business casual is always a smart way to go. And, be on time. It's very important to show your character and that you're prompt. Smile when you see somebody walk in. Look like you're somebody they want to talk to. And when you meet them make sure you have a good handshake. When you go for an interview, you want to extend your hand and have a firm handshake. So it will look like this. Nice to meet you. You don't want to have something like this, or like this, you want it to be a firm grasp of the hand. That says a lot about you too. And, you want to make eye contact. You want to look them in the eye when you speak. In a comfortable way. This shows you're interested and confident. And, very importantly, if there is something you want them to know about you, even if they don't ask you about it, make sure you bring it up. And lastly, have some closure. Send a thank you to them when you get back home. That day or no later than the day after. An e-mail will do or a hand written card is fine. And that will make you stand out and perhaps that thank you will be put in to a folder that shows your interest and schools want to know you're interested in them.
