Hi, I'm Nutrition and Fitness Expert JJ Virgin of JJVirgin.com and I'm here today with About.com to give you some tips on easy low-carb snacks, and specifically, these are snacks that you can easily take with you. The reason I love that is it removes all those excuses, so if I hear that you were running through the drive through because you didn't have snacks with you, that one is gone now that you know this.One of the things that I travel with is aseptic-packed fish. And, I will tell you don't open this on the plane, but I use this all the time when I'm traveling. There is pink salmon, there is tuna, you can get great wild fish, and what I love most about this is sometimes when you're out it's hard to get good clean, lean protein and these are rich in Omega 3's, so they're great for your health and that protein is very satiating, it keeps you fuller longer.Another easy to transport protein is jerky. And I'm always looking for great organic either beef jerky, turkey jerky, they've even got buffalo and salmon jerky. So these are things that you should just keep in your car, keep in your briefcase, keep in your suitcase so that you never get stuck.Now, one that I like to carry with me and I'm going to recommend that you do it this way are baggies of nuts and dried -- this is freeze-dried, not dried fruit, freeze-dried; dried fruit is too high in sugar -- freeze-dried has no extra sugar and is very low in calories. You don't want to carry a bag of nuts around with you. Why? Because most of us can't handle that – we'll eat the whole bag. So instead, take about 10 nuts, put them in a baggie with a little bit of the freeze-dried fruit, great for your sweet tooth, and again very satiating.And finally, I always start the day with a shake. When I'm traveling, I either bring a magic bullet blender with me, or I bring a shaker cup. And this is easy enough, I've got some protein powder, and some fiber in here, you can also add either Chia or flax seed meal, and all you do is throw in some water or coconut milk and shake it up and you're good to go. So you see these are so easy for you both to make and to transport, you've got no excuses for not having great healthy snacks with you at all times.Thanks for watching, and to learn more, visit us online at About.com.
