5 Quick Ways to Use Stale Gluten-Free Bread
My last tip is if you're just short on time and you don't know what to do with the stale bread,
Hi everyone! I'm Jeanne Peters, Nutritionist & Healthy Aging Expert from www.NourishingWellness.com and I'm here today for About.com to share with you 5 Quick Ways to use stale gluten-free bread. Now, I’m a big gluten free person and so I often have pieces of bread that are stale and maybe just not quite ready to use, so let me just show you what I do at home. First thing I like to do is make some breadcrumbs and that’s easy to do. The easiest way to do it is just to take your stale bread, put it into a toaster, toast it up, and stick it into your blender. One slice is going to make at least a cup of breadcrumbs. And then you can take it from there and stuff it into your mushrooms or use it on top of dishes that will give it a little bit of taste or use it instead of panko crumbs. The second way I like to do it is I make croutons. And the way that I do that is I just take my gluten free bread, get a little bit of olive oil, in which I’ve added to it some herbs and just a pinch of sea salt, stick it into the oven at 200 degrees, and just let it toast for about 5-6 minutes, and then you can just slice it up and put it back in the oven, and just let it sit until it gets really dry and crispy. At that point I just take it and put it into a bag and keep it on hand when you want to just throw it into a salad. My third way that I use it is I like to make French toast. So you can just take your egg and your cinnamon and just dip your gluten free bread in, and just make your French toast just as you always do. It always tastes better with stale bread! Fourth tip, I love making bruschetta. So I’ll take out of the garden some of my very favorite vegetables or chopped tomatoes. Whatever you have on hand, along with a little bit of basil and some other herbs that you enjoy, and then just lather it right on top and what you’ll find is just the liquid from the tomatoes will actually help to go ahead and freshen up that bread and it tastes great. My last tip is if you’re just short on time and you don’t know what to do with the stale bread then just toss it out to the birds. Just take it and throw it to the ducks or the birds and let them enjoy gluten free eating. So thanks for watching. To learn more cooking tips, visit us at About.com.
