Hi, I’m Maria Saracen from ArtfullyNourished.com, and in this video for About.com I’m going to be talking about typical foods on the raw food diet.The first thing I want to mention is that there are many ways to enjoy a raw food diet.  The majority of raw foodists tend to be vegan but a raw food diet can also include raw animal and fish products.  For example, raw milk, raw-milk cheeses, carpaccio (which is raw meat),cerviche (which is raw fish), and sashimi.Some people find it helpful to set a goal of eating a certain percent of their diet that raw—for example, 50% or more. Strict raw foodists tend to eat only raw foods while other people might find it more interesting and convenient to incorporate a certain amount of cooked food into their diet. The choice is entirely up to you.The main thing to note is that the Raw Food Diet is based primarily on plant foods.  This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains, beans, and legumes.Grains, seeds, beans and legumes need to be soaked and sprouted before they’re eaten, and certain foods can be dehydrated to make crackers, flatbreads, cookies and other treats.When it comes to condiments, you can enjoy items like raw apple cider vinegar, raw soy sauce, ground cinnamon and Himalayan salt.  Sweeteners include raw honey and stevia, and beverages include fresh fruit and vegetable juice, herbal teas and water.Thanks so much for watching.  To see a full list of foods to eat on the raw food diet, please visit About.com
