In this video, I'll give you the main symptoms of hyperthyroidism.The thyroid is a gland located in your neck. It's also known as the master glad of metabolism, that's because it releases thyroid hormones that help control metabolism and growth of the body.If your thyroid produces too much hormones, it's overactive, and that's also called hyperthyroidism. An overactive thyroid causes your body's functions to speed up, meaning that organs and processes in your body work faster. And because the body's metabolism is increased, many changes can take place in your body.Here are some main signs of hyperthyroidism:Since you have a higher metabolism, you can feel warmer than those around you. An overactive thyroid is also likely to cause weight loss, despite eating more. So if you have a hard time gaining weight, despite eating a healthy amount of food, it could be a symptom of a problem with your thyroid.
People who are hyperthyroid often feel tired during the day, and they can have problems sleeping at night. Hyperthyroidism in severe cases can lead to shortness of breath, weakness in muscles, and chest pain. The most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Graves' disease, an autoimmune disease that causes the thyroid to produce too much hormones. Graves disease is most common in women age 20 to 40. As you can tell, the health of your thyroid can affect different parts of your health and well-being. If you're concerned about being hyperthyroid, talk to your doctor.
