Hi, I’m Maria Saracen from ArtfullyNourished.com, and in this video for About.com I’m going to show you how to make your very own almond milk, which is actually a very easy process.The two main ingredients you’ll need are raw almonds and filtered water. You can also add flavorings like vanilla extract or cinnamon. Sweeteners like honey, maple syrup or stevia, it all depends on how you want your almond milk to taste.The first step is to soak your raw almonds in about two to three times as much water. In this example I have two cups of almonds, so I’m going to use 6 cups of water. Let your almonds soak for 4 - 6 hours or even overnight.The next step is to rinse the almonds well, and if you like, you can even remove the skin, which should come off pretty easily at this point.Next, you’re going to put your almonds in the blender and add about twice as much water. If you prefer your almond milk thicker, you can use less water or if you want it thinner, you can add more. It’s really a matter of personal preference.While you’re blending the almonds and water, you can also add any flavorings or sweeteners. I’m going to add some vanilla extract and a 1/4 teaspoon of stevia.Once you have a nice, creamy mixture in your blender, you can transfer it and strain it into a wide-mouthed container. You can use a nut milk bag to do this or cheese cloth folded over into several layers. Squeeze all the milk out as well as you can, and if you like, you can strain the almond milk for a second time using a fine strainer. And there you have it your very own almond milk ready to be enjoyed! At this stage, you can still add additional flavors or sweeteners and if it’s too thick, you can also water it down.In terms of storage, you’ll want to keep your almond milk in the refrigerator, for up to one week.Thanks so much for watching.
